What is a Hybrid Wireless Fire Detection System?

A HYBRID Wireless Fire Detection System is one which utilises both a hard-wired fire detection system combined with ‘clusters’ of wireless detection.

Normally the wireless sections of the system are introduced to overcome a specific site problem which prevents the use of traditional fire cabling such as unwanted site disruption, expense or other technical impracticalities.

Fully Intelligent

FIREwave® is based on an advanced wireless communication protocol which facilitates the delivery of fully intelligent field device integration, allowing analogue values, device addresses and type codes to be transmitted to the system control panel.

Loop Powered Translator

Powered directly from the detection loop, the FIREwave® Translator Module ensures a reliable and secure connection between the wireless field devices and the control equipment. Each Translator Module can support up to 32 field devices via the proven wireless protocol.

Robust & Secure Communication

Communication between the Translator Module and devices is bi-directional and uses the 868MHz frequency range in Europe, 916MHz in Australia and 433MHz in India. Automatic system adjustments, including channel hopping and signal amplification, are implemented to support the security and stability of communications.

Monitored Batteries

All FIREwave® devices are powered by standard lithium batteries which are both economical and environmentally friendly. All FIREwave® batteries are monitored continually, and any low battery condition is automatically displayed at the control equipment.

System Architecture
Ideal Scenarios

Aesthetically sensitive interiorswhere cabling/trunking would be inappropriate

Historic/protected buildingswhere cabling/drilling is prohibited

Concrete structureswhere cabling/trunking/drilling is impossible

Asbestos siteswhere drilling is prohibited

Temporary structuresto provide legally required protection

Remote buildingswhere cabling would be expensive

The RSM-WTM-AS is a fully intelligent wired to wireless Translator Module. Completely compatible with the Hochiki ESPprotocol, the module allows the use of fully intelligent radio (wireless) field devices alongside standard hard wired devices.

The Translator Module allows the connection of up to 32 radio field devices to an addressable fire detection loop. Multiple Translators can be used on a system providing the system has sufficient loop addresses avaliable.

The RSM-EXP-AS Expander Module increases radio coverage of a FIREwave® RSM-WTM-AS Translator Module, allowing the use of the system in larger buildings and in difficult wireless environments. Multiple Expanders can be utilised in a micro cell structure to provide a solution to large, complex systems.

Up to 7 Expander Modules may be configured to any one Translator Module forming a micro cell cluster. Each cluster can be programmed with up to 32 radio field devices.

The ROD-E-AS is an intelligent wireless photoelectric smoke sensor which is compatible with the FIREwave® Translator Module (RSM-WTM-AS) and Expander Module (RSM-EXP-AS).

The patented smoke chamber of the ROD-E-AS ensures optimal smoke sensitivity from all directions, whilst the double dust trap provides the chamber with increased protection from airborne contamination and background illumination. Each sensor is fitted with a reed switch facility allowing testing using a magnet.

The RHD-E-AS is an intelligent wireless heat sensor which is compatible with the FIREwave® Translator Module (RSM-WTM-AS) and Expander Module (RSM-EXP-AS).

The double dust trap provides the chamber with increased protection from airborne contamination and background illumination. Each sensor is fitted with a reed switch facility allowing testing using a magnet.

The RMD-E-AS is an intelligent wireless multi-sensor capable of detecting smoke and/or heat and is compatible with the FIREwave® Translator Module (RSM-WTM-AS) and Expander Module (RSM-EXP-AS).

The patented smoke chamber of the RMD-E-AS ensures optimal smoke sensitivity from all directions, whilst the double dust trap provides the chamber with increased protection from airborne contamination and background illumination. Each sensor is fitted with a reed switch facility allowing testing using a magnet.

These single channel modules provide a convenient and cost effective solution for monitoring and controlling third party equipment. The units are controllable from the Fire Control Panel via the cause and effect programming and offer the same level of flexibility as standard addressable modules.

The units are mounted in protective IP65 housings for installing in hostile conditions and to enable the termination of fire protected cabling.

The RSM-CP-AS is a Wireless Resettable Manual Call Point which features a simulated glass front. When activated, a plastic ‘flag’ is displayed in the window of the unit; the supplied key will reset the flag and unit.

The RSM-BS-AS is base sounder unit providing an audio alarm as well as a fixing base for any of the FIREwave® range of sensors.

The base sounder features 32 tone settings as standard with two volume settings allowing adjustment up to 92 dB(A) at 1 metre. The sensor fixing section can also be removed to accomodate a locking cover plate.

The HFC-SBR-23-03 Wall Sounder VAD forms the core of our wireless AS7240.23 modular visual alarm device (VAD) range. The unit comes with a wireless module HFW-SIM-01-AS which requires fitting into the Wall Sounder VAD back box. The HFC-SBR-23-03 is weather proof as standard and is equipped with 3 levels of volume adjustment, high output LED beacon and 32 recognised tones which can be set locally at the sounder.

The HFC-WSR-03 Wall Sounder forms the core of our wireless AS7240.3 modular alarm device range. The unit comes with a wireless module HFW-SIM-01-AS which requires fitting into the Wall Sounder back box. The HFC-WSR-03 is weather proof as standard and is equipped with 3 levels of volume adjustment and 32 recognised tones which can be set locally at the sounder.

The RSM-STK-AS Survey Kit is an essential tool for those installers carrying out hybrid wireless fire detection installations.

The kit allows the installer to survey the potential site to check radio signal strengths at various locations. In this way problem areas due to wall thicknesses, construction materials or background radio noise can be identified before installation.

This survey ensures that the specified wireless equipment will communicate effectively across the building and provide that integral link with the wired fire detection system and control panel.
